Nudism is a fun, healthy, freeing and wholesome way for men and women to socialize and live without clothes.

Why are there so few young nudists?

One of the biggest discouragements of the nudist industry lies in the fact that older people are more willing to toss their clothes than the younger generation – and as such, the nudist lifestyle and all its excerpts such as nudist dating, nudist resorts and more, seem to be a dying culture.

While public nudity is becoming more and more acceptable with a statistical 43 percent of people between the ages of 18 and 29 willing to try public nudity, there are still a few major factors that affect young adult's decisions to become nudists.
In this article, we are going to be discussing six reasons younger adults are not so willing to become nudists.

1.) Peer pressure.

One of the strongest forces that affect, influence and shape a teen is peer pressure. The need to be accepted by your peers becomes paramount in a person's teenage years.

Most times a teenager with the desire to be a nudist would find themselves suppressing those innate desires because their beliefs conflict with what their peer group believes in.

Not to mention that thanks to the media, society, and culture have forced their ideas of what the "right look" should be. Only a mentally brave teen would be willing to break the norm and stick to what they believe in– and sadly not very many young adults do this!

2.) Misinformation

Most teens are told that being a nudist is a sexual orientation such as being a lesbian or a homosexual and because nudism is seen in this light instead of the light of being a body positive way of life, young adults are dissuaded from the idea.

3.) Fear

Along with the fear that they do not have the "perfect body type" that some of their role models attain through tons of surgeries, young adults fear that they would be the only young ones in the midst of older nudists. This means a teen would not only have to get over their fear of public nudity, they would also need to get over the ideology that nudism is for "old people".

4.) Nudist cultures lack teenagers

Imagine walking into a bank with a 50-year-old cashier, a 60-year-old manager and staffs all over the age of 50. The first thought would be that the bank was for old people.

Most nudist resorts get it wrong when they staff their facilities with older folk. This practice discourages the introduction of new young adults. For most nudist teenagers who try these facilities, they feel disconnected from the crowd around them. Regardless, it is important to note that there a quite a few more progressive nudist resorts that just fit their needs. But if the nudist culture wants to survive, the younger ones need to be enticed.

5.) The issue of the Single Male.

It is a little more difficult for a single male to opt for the nudist lifestyle. Most organized nudist groups welcome more females than males, thus leaving the males out in the cold. For female nudist singles looking for love from opposite like-minded sex, this could be very discouraging and only worsens the problem.

6.) Financial difficulties.

Being a nudist is quite expensive. Nudist resorts and beaches are located in very reserve locations that require flying or a personal vehicle – a 4WD sometimes to get to. This is not to mention membership fees and loads of financial commitments.  Hardly any young adult would want to pay so much to be FREE.

While it might seem like quite the uphill task to inculcate young adult nudists into the culture properly, nudism as a lifestyle can hope that young adult's willingness to defy norms would push them towards prolonging the existence of nudism.

How to go about introducing your friend/partner to nudism

As more people discover and experience nudism, the lifestyle becomes more appealing than the ideology that most people had held about it before trying it out for themselves.

However, in their journey of self-love and body positivity, many nudists would agree that this exotic lifestyle would be even more fun with a friend. The problem however is, most people do not know how to go about introducing their friend or even spouse to nudism.

In this article, we would show you how to get past the barrier of communicating with your non-nudist loved one and getting them to test the waters of the nudist lifestyle.

Let's get started!

What kind of friend are you asking?

There are people who still hold the ideology – and very firmly that nudism is for loose people. And while this could not be any farther from wrong, you must put this into consideration when asking a friend to try the nudist lifestyle.

•    How does this friend react to other people in public who wear less?
•    Would this friend frown at a painting celebrating nudity?
•    Does your friend value clothes or their “public image” over anything else?
•    Was this friend brought up very strictly or religiously?

Any of these could be strong pointers to your friend's orientation towards the concept of nudism.

If your friend does not admire the nudist lifestyle, and perhaps even criticizes it, then you want to ask a different friend. But if you insist, then you want to start by calmly dispelling the misinformation surrounding nudism. We would show you how to do that further down in this article

Mention nudism

Don't be too direct when you want to ask your loved one or friend to try nudism – at least not yet!

Simply mention it casually as part of a general convo and see how they react. This should help you understand their mindset.

Jokingly or subtle chip in sentences that hint at your love for nudism or skinny dipping or the idea of a nudist cruise and see what they say to the thought!

Tell them the truth.

Hey, you are a nudist for heaven's sakes, not the grim reaper – tell your friends that you are one!

After gauging your friend or partners reactions to the concept of nudism, it is time to come clean about who you are. And while you are informing this friend about your lifestyle, do not appear shy, nervous or embarrassed – there is absolutely no need to be.

If anything, you should exude confidence. Be open, honest, and upfront as you discuss your stance on nudism with your friend.

Dispelling the misconceptions

Chances are that all your friend knows about nudism would be hearsays that are not the truth.

A lot of people consider nudism to be a sexual lifestyle. In fact, nudist resorts are perceived as a den of open sex, orgies, exhibitionism, and voyeurism – the onus is on you to dispel these misconceptions by educating your friend about how nudism is focused on the natural aspect of nudity, as against the sexual aspect.

Make your research and present proof that there are lots of nudist resorts, clubs or cruises that do not condone things like that!

Your friend may not know that children are also welcome in many nudist localities and as such proper etiquettes of nudism are followed in such a family environment.
Research and teach!

Now pop the question

At this point, you can ask your now informed friend to try nudism with you. Be sure to take them to a nudist resort or club that fits everything you have just explained. Because telling a friend that there are nudist localities where sex is prohibited, only to take them an uncultured location is not going to help your cause.
Also, when you ask your friend or partner, do not pressure them.

If they promise to try it out then congratulations, you've done well. If they refuse your ideology – respect that!

Good luck!
